We are Risk Intelligence
Risk Intelligence is a dynamic world leader in risk assessment and planning, specialising in threat analysis at sea, in port and on land with a global risk alert system and 24 hr watch team.
What we do
Risk Intelligence is a dynamic world leader in intelligence, risk assessment and planning, offering comprehensive support with our end-to-end risk management system and 24 hr watch team of highly experienced analysts. We have specialised in the analysis of threats from and interaction between piracy, organised crime, terrorism, insurgency and military conflicts since 2001 and in 2008 we launched the Risk Intelligence System - an unrivalled and fully integrated risk assessment and planning tool.
Through the Risk Intelligence System and our high quality advisory services, we provide valid, actionable intelligence to 15.4% of the maritime world fleet. Our clients include ship operators, managers and owners, offshore operators, oil and gas companies, marine and war risk insurers, as well as governmental and military organisations.
Who we are
Our team of specialised analysts and advisors is dedicated, resourceful and hard working, and draws on international experience from diverse backgrounds including military, governmental and private organisations.
We work as trusted and reliable partners to our clients and aim to act with integrity and expertise to deliver a dynamic, clear and accessible end-to-end solution. Our analysts have strong business acumen and see it as their job to support strong commercial operations for their clients.
Our 24/7 Duty Watch Team is a symbol of this dedication, ready to offer Risk Intelligence System users tangible, actionable advice that they can apply directly when unexpected situations arise.
How we work
As an advisor and supplier of often business-critical services, we are eager to avoid the traditional one-way supplier relationship. Security risk is not an exact science and with the unpredictable human factor playing a big part, we seek to cultivate close working relationships with our clients - an effort that is reflected in our System annual renewal rate of more than 98%.
We strive to drive proactive discussions and advise as a security partner to support your commercial opportunities, taking all factors into account. We believe that a thorough understanding of the threats in question in any given situation or area in combination with insight into our clients’ needs enables us to produce the high-quality threat and risk assessments and consulting that secures our clients’ operations and commercial edge.
15.7% of the world fleet trust us as their risk intelligence partner. Will you?
Knowing risk
The Risk Intelligence approach to risk assessment
To understand the security threats facing our clients, we need to apply several layers of context. Analysing different types of threats independently, without reference to other threats or the application of existing or potential relations between these threats, leads to flawed analytical conclusions and assessments with little use to the end user: our clients. That is why we use the Four Circles model.
Risk in context: The Four Circles Model
Risk Intelligence analyses threats from a holistic perspective that originate, firstly, in the type and origin of the organisation(s) posing a risk, and then, secondly, in the type of criminal activity.
By identifying the type of organisation in question, we can better forecast the likelihood of having to eliminate or limit the organisation or tactic in the future - and when. For instance, a true piracy organisation working from a coastal area can be dealt with by relatively simple military and law enforcement means, while at the other end of the organisational spectrum an insurgency organisation will often take decades of political, financial, military and law enforcement operations to lead to a solution.
The same applies to a terrorist organisation, which rarely - if ever - can be defeated solely by military and law enforcement measures. The most dynamic organisations are the organised crime syndicates, which flow like water in a stream and change direction immediately when obstacles are met. Organised crime syndicates adapt quickly to the environment and change their tactics, for instance from hijacking to people trafficking, or even geographically relocate if the pressure is too great.
Our model of analysis is called the Four Circles Model©.

Risk Intelligence the company
Risk Intelligence was established in Denmark in 2001 and is a global leader in risk intelligence and risk assessments for companies operating in the shipping, gas, oil and offshore segment, military and governmental organisations, as well as insurance companies, and an emerging client base within logistics and supply chain operators.
The company offers its intelligence through a digital platform, the Risk Intelligence System (MaRisk and LandRisk), which presents a comprehensive global view of real time environment risks for maritime and port areas.
In 2018, the company decided to become a listed company and in this process raise 12 MDKK to finance a number of growth initiatives, including the next step in the development and launch of the LandRisk module in the Risk Intelligence System in order to cover the entire logistic chain (MaRisk + PortRisk+ LandRisk). The IPO was successful and the company was listed at Spotlight Stock Market on 17 August 2018.
