Management
Hans Tino Hansen is founder and CEO of Risk Intelligence. He specialises in intelligence and maritime security risks for shipping, offshore, oil and gas companies. In addition, he has been advising a range of companies and governmental organisations at management level since 2001.
He has led the development of the “Four Circles Model” for understanding the impact of and inter-relation between terrorism, insurgency, organised crime and piracy. From 2005 the company started analysing piracy in general and Somalia and West African piracy in particular. During 2007 he started development of the web-based global maritime security risks monitoring solution, MaRisk, which today is used by a number of private companies operating more than 14 per cent of the world merchant fleet in international traffic and by navies around the world.
He holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Copenhagen. Prior to his studies he served in the Danish Army for two years and later in the army reserve for eight years.
He has contributed to books on maritime security and is consulted as a commentator by the international and Danish media.
CEO and founder
Niels is the Chief Operating Officer and overall responsible for delivering products and services to our clients. He also plays a strong role in developing new features and functionality for the System.
Before joining Risk Intelligence, Niels was Deputy Company Security Officer and Senior Security Advisor at Maersk Line. In this position, Niels was deeply involved not only in all daily operations and routines but also the long-term planning of projects and programmes in the whole spectrum of maritime security.
Niels is ship’s master and a former Tactical Officer in the Royal Danish Navy where he left with the rank of Commander. In his time in the Navy, he held various positions in naval aviation, naval SOF, frigates and as project lead for maritime ballistic missile defence. He has also specialised in the intelligence domain and had several deployments as head of the intelligence branch.
Chief Operating Officer
Jens Krøis is Chief Financial Officer and member of the senior management team and have overall responsibility of Finance and Investor Relations at Risk Intelligence. Jens has a long track record on corporate level in listed companies in the Nordic region.
Before joining Risk Intelligence Jens Krøis has worked in the last 5 years as a consultant and as a CFO assisting companies to raise capital on Nasdaq and Oslo Stock Exchange. Jens Krøis latest position was as CFO at a Norwegian listed (OSE) biotech company. Prior to his, Krøis had a long career in FLSmidth & Co (“FLSmidth”), a C20 listed company on Nasdaq in Denmark.
Jens Krøis has extensive knowledge and experience within finance, funding, raising of capital and investor relations and has a strong network in the capital market both locally and globally. He is experienced in compliance, financial reporting (both internal and external), and also reporting to the stock exchange and capital markets in general.
Chief Financial Officer
Jim is the Chief Commercial Officer, CCO, at Risk Intelligence, overall responsible for sales, marketing and client relations. He joined Risk Intelligence in 2018 as International Sales Manager. He was appointed Sales Director in June 2020 and was appointed CCO and part of the management team in September 2020.
As a Royal Marines Officer he specialised in information exploitation. Whilst serving in UK Forces he commanded troops involved in maritime interdiction, maritime counter terrorism and conventional land operations.
Since retiring from the military, he has worked as a management consultant, delivering organisational change, primarily looking at the values and human behaviours, in particular those of C-suite staff across several large organisations. Alongside consultancy work he established, ran and exited his own company in the retail and hospitality sector.

Guy is responsible for managing the assessment and analysis components of Risk Intelligence products. His own research areas include Oceania and East Asia, as well as transnational organised criminal groups operating in the maritime realm.
Prior to joining Risk Intelligence in 2010, Guy worked on energy security in the private sector, and was a policy advisor for the New Zealand Police and the Ministry of Defence. He has a PhD in political science from the University of Auckland and worked in academia for a number of years following conferment.
Head of Intelligence Analysis
David is a Director at Risk Intelligence and he leads various security projects related to the Risk Intelligence Advisory services business unit where he is responsible for delivering products and services to our clients. Furthermore, David holds responsibilities in sales and business development initiatives.
Before joining Risk Intelligence David served in the military forces and later acquired over 25 years of experience in international security with a strong combination of expertise in various aspects of security (maritime, aviation, homeland protection, and security technologies) as well as in international marketing, business development and sales. He has proven experience managing complex, multidisciplinary security engagements and is globally recognised as an expert in maritime security and anti-piracy issues.
Head of Advisory Services
Before joining Risk Intelligence, Steve served in the UK Parachute Regiment and has 15 years’ experience in international security. This has included support for governmental reconstruction programmes, commercial oil and gas projects and NGO humanitarian operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.
With a strong operational background in hostile and post-conflict environments, Steve has focused on policy development, risk and incident management and compliance to industry and international standards.

In his role, Lennard oversees renewals, contracts, invoicing, and client data management, while also leading initiatives to streamline and digitalize commercial practices. His strong background in commercial growth and operational efficiency positions him to play a crucial role in the continued growth of Risk Intelligence, ensuring seamless client engagement and operational excellence.

Robin Häggblom, also known as Corporal Frisk, joined Risk Intelligence as a Senior Advisor and Project Manager. Based in Finland, Robin brings extensive expertise in defence analysis, risk assessment, and project management, with a focus on the Nordic and Baltic Sea regions.
He primarily works in the "Government & Defence" business area, supporting client relationships and delivering key projects. Robin’s background includes NATO’s northern flank dynamics, GEOINT, the intelligence cycle, and maritime industry operations, as well as the ISO 9001 and 27001 standards.

Dirk Steffen is the Head of West Africa Analysis at Risk Intelligence. He manages projects ranging from shipboard security surveys to accompanying vessels in high-risk areas. He is a proponent of intelligence-driven security for ships based on situational awareness, good tactical training and layered defensive measures.
Dirk served 12 years in the German Navy as a clearance diving and navigating officer on minehunters and as an instructor for ship divers. After leaving the navy in 2000 he worked on maritime security and oil & gas related projects in West and North Africa. He also retains a reserve commission as a Commander, which he exercises at the German Navy’s Fleet HQ in Glücksburg.
He holds an MA in military studies (naval warfare) from the American Military University.

Stefan is Project Director at Risk Intelligence and he manages security projects related to shore-based and offshore installations.
Before joining Risk Intelligence Stefan was partner and Director of Security Projects in CUSTOS for almost 9 years, working with maritime security-related projects.
Stefan served 18 years in the Danish Naval Special Forces – Frogman Corps – working primarily in maritime counter-terrorism (MCT) and before retiring he was head of the MCT unit in the Frogman Corps.

Jesper is responsible for the team that monitors the daily threat picture and produces incident reports and alerts for the Risk Intelligence System. He is also the point of contact for clients on operational matters.
His responsibilities include ensuring that the duty ops watch is manned and the duty ops email is monitored at all times. Part of his job is also to verify, assess and analyse all the information gathered during the watch, together with the rest of the analysis team, before release on the System.
Jesper holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Copenhagen and he is a Captain in the Danish army reserve.
MaRisk Manager
Ian is the PortRisk Manager at Risk Intelligence and is responsible for the content and assessments of the ports on the System. He is deployable and regularly visits ports and sea areas conducting on-site surveys.
Before joining Risk Intelligence Ian was the Ops and Plans Manager at Salama Fikira in Nairobi, dealing with the provision of embarked security teams for both land-based and seaborne tasks.
Ian served 27 years in the Royal Navy as an electronic warfare specialist, working in a wide variety of ships and shore establishments. Before leaving the service Ian was the UK’s in-theatre counter-piracy analyst at the UKMCC in Bahrain and attended regular industry forums, as well as representing the UK at the ONI Illicit Activities and Counter-Terrorism Conference in Washington.

Currently working as Landrisk’s Manager, Jeanne joined Risk Intelligence as an Intern Security Analyst in February 2023 and continued with the company as a LandRisk Security Specialist. Prior to this position, she worked as Project Manager in the higher education sector in the UK.
Jeanne holds a B.A. (Hons) in History and Politics from the University of Buckingham and a MSc in Security and Crime Science from University College London, where she applied her research skills to the study of complex and organised crime.

Jesper is responsible for IT, Risk Intelligence System support and Facility Management.
Before joining Risk Intelligence Jesper has worked as project manager, CIO and CEO being responsible for business development and project management within the areas of development and operation of web portals, IT in general, marketing, sales, and management, as well as utilization of the digital potential.
He has a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Marketing) from Copenhagen Business School.

Patricia is the Marketing Manager in our commercial team, overseeing marketing strategies and managing assets such as CRM, CMS, social media, and email marketing, while spearheading growth initiatives for various customer segments. With extensive international experience from numerous projects and internships, Patricia holds a BSc in International Business and Economics from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies and an MSc in Business Administration and E-business from Copenhagen Business School.
Starting at Risk Intelligence as a student Growth Hacker & Business Assistant, Patricia advanced to Marketing Analyst and now leads the department as Marketing Manager.

Florence manages customer relations and develops quality services for the sales team as Customer Success Manager.
Over the past decade, she has worked in the private and public sectors in Paris in the fields of security, defence, diplomacy and consultancy.
Having worked as a former geopolitical and multi-intelligence analyst, cartographer, and Chief of Staff for the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, Florence developed the strategic insight, military notions, and diplomacy skills needed to provide personalized customer service.
She holds a master's degree in geopolitics from the French Institute of Geopolitics.

Dirk is a senior analyst and duty watch officer at Risk Intelligence. His research areas include maritime security issues in sub-Saharan Africa, primarily in West and Central Africa, and he presents regularly at academic and military research institutions on related topics.
Prior to joining Risk Intelligence, Dirk served as an officer in the German Navy and worked as a journalist and public relations consultant for several years, advising clients on media and crisis communication strategies. He holds a PhD from the University of Greenwich in London and an MA in International Studies from Durham University.

Before joining Risk Intelligence, Louis worked for for the French Ministry of Armed forces for more than six years, first as deputy head of section in the field of GEOINT, then following arms trafficking and counter-proliferation at sea. For the last three years, Louis has been a Senior analyst on counter terrorism at sea.
Louis also has experience from working on maritime security issues for different think tanks such as Asia Centre, and started a PhD on coast guards in Asia at the French Institute of Geopolitics. In parallel, he has been a reserve officer in the French Navy since 2013, working for the Military Intelligence Directorate and for the French Navy's Center for Analysis.
Louis holds a master’s degree in geopolitics from the Sorbonne-Paris1/ENS, where his research focused on maritime piracy in South-East Asia and drug trafficking at sea in the Caribbean. He also worked at Risk Intelligence as an intern during summer 2012.

Kais works as an analyst and focusses on the MENA region, as well as on the Eastern Mediterranean. He has previous work experience in the private intelligence sector and as a military linguist in the Danish Armed Forces. Kais holds a BSc in International Business and Politics and a master's degree in Middle East studies.

Hans-Kristian’s analytical focus includes the Mediterranean and Black Sea. He is also the point of contact for interns and Secretary of the Risk Intelligence Advisory Board. Thomas Timlen, based in Singapore, is our Southeast Asia Analyst. His background addressing maritime security threats began in the 1990s as an industry representative with BIMCO. Since then he has been involved with a variety of security related work including research conducted as a Visiting Research Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. He holds a BSc in Business Administration and Management from Boston University.

Prior to joining Risk Intelligence, Katie served as an Analyst with the Singapore Armed Forces Military Intelligence Organisation for 15 years. Kristian is our Europe and Russia analyst, as well as having a focus on emerging technological threats like cyber and electronic warfare. Kristian has previously served in the Danish Army, and worked with analysis and physical security in international NGOs and emergency response organisations.
Additionally, he has been a part of the Danish Atlantic Treaty Association, a Copenhagen based think-tank researching issues on international security.
Kristian holds an undergraduate degree in Emergency and Risk Management, and a master’s degree in Security and Strategy from the University of Exeter.

Before joining Risk Intelligence, Irene worked for 7 years in a fashion/accessories company.
Irene has worked with bookkeeping and finance for more than 30 years in various industries like engineering, fashion/accessories as well as a period of self-employment.

Nikolaj works as a Junior Analyst on LandRisk. Prior to being employed as a Junior Analyst, Nikolaj worked for Risk Intelligence as a student and project assistant, onboard the TAPA project. He has previously served in the Royal Danish Navy as a Combat Information Specialist and worked with ISPS and as an open-source private investigator in the private security sector. Nikolaj holds an undergraduate degree in Emergency and Risk Management from Copenhagen University College.

Thomas is a consultant and responsible for analysis on countries in sub-Saharan Africa. He holds a PhD from the University of Copenhagen. His research largely concentrates on security governance issues in sub-Saharan Africa, including conflict dynamics, peace missions, governance, SSR and the evolution of private security providers.
Thomas is widely published and involved in several international research projects. He has previously worked for the AU, UNDP, EU, and Norwegian Embassy, amongst others.
