SIGNIFICANT EUROPEAN PROTESTS 2022
TOTAL: 284 significant European activism/protest incidents causing potential disruption, up from 95 last year
Climate activism: Climate activist protesters continued to cause major disruptions of main traffic routes across Europe. Motorways in the United Kingdom and Germany were particularly affected. This trend is likely to continue whilst climate change remains high on the political and societal agenda globally.
Labor Rights Activism: Due to increasing inflation and higher costs of living throughout Europe, labour rights activism and labor union strike actions in various sectors of the supply chain have increasingly taken place in 2022, creating localised disruptions to the land-based supply chain and/or commercial port maritime operations.
The numbers:
160 (56% of all incidents) significant climate change related activism/protest incidents with potential disruption to the supply chain.
94 (33% of all incidents) labor rights related incidents with potential disruptions to the supply chain.
30 (11% of all incidents) Other protest incidents in mainland Europe.
